Long dry season: June–October. The signature Zanzibar postcard — clear skies, low humidity, calm seas and steady breezes. Water visibility is at its best for snorkelling and diving, and every boat tour runs reliably. This is peak season, busiest in July and August with European and Gulf travellers.
Short dry season: December–February. Hot, sunny and lively. Warm calm waters make it prime time for diving and dolphin swims, and February is often the hottest, driest month of all. The Christmas–New Year window is the most expensive fortnight of the year.
Rainy seasons — the value choice
Long rains (Masika): March–May. The main wet season, heaviest in April. Expect showers — but rarely all day; mornings are frequently sunny. In return you get the lushest landscapes, the quietest beaches and the deepest discounts of the year, especially in April and May.
